Mesa Track Competed in Two Different Events Over the Weekend

MESA, AZ – Several strong performances highlighted Mesa's participation in two meets over the
weekend.

On Friday, at the Northern Arizona University Tune-up in Flagstaff, AZ, freshman Calla Reed posted the top performance in the pole vault in the NJCAA this year, clearing 12-2.

Then on Saturday at Paradise Valley, several athletes posted top marks, especially in the men's pole vault. The T-Birds currently rank 1=3 in the nation with sophomore Leonard Bellgardt, IV, clearing 16-1 1/4 , the best junior college mark this year, followed by sophomore Trenton Slater whose 15-9 ¼ put him third in the country.

The men's distance medley relay team of Zachary Harrach, Ethan Clah, Jordan Brooks and Fernandez qualified in that event.

Two women's milers also posted improved qualifying marks. Freshamn Allyson Girard was clocked in 5:18.11 while freshman Adeline Montgomery hit the tape in 5:25.19.

Mesa has one more meet, the Central Arizona last chance on Saturday before heading to the NJCAA national championships at Wake Forest, N.C., March 4-5.
