Men tie for 11th, women 24th at NJCAA track and field championships
HUTCHINSON, Kan. - After a good day Saturday, including a huge showing in the pole vault, the Mesa men tied for 11th place at the NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships. The MCC women placed 24th, doing all of their scoring on Thursday and Friday.
MCC took third, fouth and fifth place in the men's pole vault. Austin McCrum (So., Carson, Wash/Stevenson H.S.) placed third with a leap of 16- 3/4. Michael Costello (So., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) was fourth at 15-3 and Leonard Bellgardt IV (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite H.S.) was fifth, clearing the same height, but with more misses.
David Figueroa (So., Mesa, AZ/Nogales H.S.) placed third in the 800 with a 1:51.25 clocking.
For the Mesa women, Dana Brady (So. Bradenton, Fla/Saguaro (AZ) H.S.) placed seventh in the pole vault with a height of 10-6. That event was held Friday.
