Women's 4x800 relay highlights MCC's second day at NJCAA track championships

  HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Mesa women's 4x800 meter relay team took fourth place to highlight MCC's participation at the NJCAA Division I Track and Field Championships Friday.

  The team of Beatriz Martinez (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.), Vicky Taverna (So., Chandler, AZ/Seton Catholic H.S.), Teleya Bailey (Fr., Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza H.S.) and Karlie Kjerstad (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) was timed in 9:30.10.

  Jayme Giles (So., Portland, Ore/Reynolds H.S.) had a good showing in the heptathlon, finishing tenth with 4,070 points.

  Martinez took 11th place in the 800 meters in 2:22.47.

  For the T-Bird men, David Figueroa (So., Mesa, AZ/Nogales H.S.) qualified second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:50.38 ahead of Saturday's final.

  The women's pole vault, with Dana Brady (So., Bradenton, Fla/Saguaro (AZ) H.S.) seeded third had yet to be reported.
