Women's distance medley relay highlights showing at Pima meet

  TUCSON, AZ - The women's distance medley relay produced the No. 1 time in the nation to highlight Mesa's showing at the Pima Aztec Invitational Saturday.

  The team of Vicky Taverna (So., Chandler, AZ/Seton Catholic H.S.), Teleya Bailey, Betraiz Martinez and Karlie Kjerstad (So., Chandler, AZ/Chandler H.S.) was clocked in 12:49.1, 40 seconds better than the qualifying time.

  Meanwhile, Martinez improved on her NJCAA qualifying time in the 1,000 meters by running 3:03.30 and Kjerstad added her name to the qualifying list in the event at 3:08.24.

  Dana Brady (So., St. Petersburg, Fla/Saguaro (AZ) H.S.) equaled her qualifying standard in the pole vault with a jump of 10-0.

  For the MCC men, David Figueroa added to his qualification in the 600 with a 50.00 400. Michael Costello joined the list in the pole vault at 14-3 1/4, while Austin McCrum jumped another 14-9 and Jose Retana improved to 2:37.24 in the 1,000.

  Mesa will head north this weekend to compete in the NAU Indoor in Flagstaff.
