Mesa Place Winners Friday in NJCAA Track and Field Nationals

  MESA, AZ - On a day on which most of the events were preliminaries, several Mesa athletes scored points for the T-Birds at the NJCAA Track and Field National Championships.

  In the women's shot put, Jessica Schmitt (So., Long Island, NY/Dobson (AZ) H.S.) placed fourth with a toss of 45-5 and Malia Ta'ase (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) was eighth at 41-5 3/4.

  For the men, Erik Johnson (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/ South Mountain H.S.) was seventh in the shot put at 54-3.

  The Mesa women were tied for seventh place with 11 points. The Mesa men have scored nine points and was in seventh place.
