T-Birds Split Pair With Chandler-Gilbert, 5-4 (W), 4-5 (L)

Mesa, AZ - In two competitive, evenly match games, the Mesa Thunderbirds softball team split a double-header Saturday afternoon with Mesa winning game one, 5-4 and the Coyotes taking game two, 5-4.

It was Sammy Quezada who kranked a two run homer to left field that helped Mesa win game one.  Quezada went 2-2 in game one with four RBI's.  Nikki Begay DP'd for the T-Birds and she went 1-2 with an RBI as well.

Gaby Lopez improved her record to 7-0 on the season, pitching seven solid innings, allowing five hits, four runs (two earned), two walks while striking out three.

In game two, Mesa trailed late in the final innings and had a few chances to push runs across the plate but failed to.  In the bottom of the seventh inning, Mesa had runners on first and second with no outs but the T-Birds would fly out twice and strikeout to end the game.

Mesa is 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the ACCAC.  The T-Birds will be on the road next Tuesday at South Mountain for a 1 pm first pitch then back home Saturday against Yavapai College with a noon first pitch.
