T-Birds Combine for 34 Runs in Two Game Sweep at Scottsdale

Scottsdale, AZ - Oh what a night! It was a night that seemed would never end but for the Mesa Thunderbirds softball team, they were having so much fun that they didn't want it to end.  Six hours from the first pitch in game one, the T-Birds wrapped up a two game sweep, defeating the Scottsdale Artichokes, 14-2, 20-13.

The T-Birds collected 35 hits on the night and just kept the line moving, also drawing 14 walks overall.

In game one, it was sophomore Ryan Holmes who provided the power, knocking out home runs two and three on the season.  Holmes went 3-4 in game one, scoring four runs while also collecting a double.

Gabby Lopez improved her record to 4-0 on the season, earning wins in each game.  In game one, she pitched seven solid innings, allowing just two hits and two runs.  Lopez came in relief during game two with the game tied at 11, pitching the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, allowing just four hits and limiting Scottsdale to just two runs.  It was then the Mesa offense that helped out Lopez, scoring seven runs in the top of the sixth, with the big hit coming from Sammy Quezada, a three run laser homerun over the left field fence.  Quezada finished with five total RBI's in game two.

Mesa collected 22 total hits in game two, with leadoff hitter Amber Saiz and Kelsey Cook each going 5-6 in game two.  Cook had four RBI's while scoring three runs with Saiz scoring four runs and having one RBI.

The T-Birds begin the season 4-0 and look to Gateway this coming weekend in Phoenix to extend their winning ways.  First pitch is at noon.
