Aztecs Just Too Much in Sweep of T-Birds, 9-5, 12-5 (5)

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds softball team dropped a double-header to Pima Tuesday afternoon, 9-5, 12-5 (5).

The T-Birds gave the Aztecs a battle in both games  but just couldn't overcome big, late innings put together by Pima.

Mesa trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning but a Alexis Cirerol lead off homerun to left center field began a three run inning.  Andrea Lugo and Raychelle Hernandez eventually scored later in the inning to give Mesa the 5-4 advantage.

Those were the final runs Mesa would scored the rest of the game while Pima rattled off five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to finalize the 9-5 victory.

Game two mirrored how game one played out.  Each team exchanged big runs on big hits.  But big late inning runs from the Aztecs finalized the sweep for Pima.

Mesa is 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the ACCAC.  The T-Birds will play at Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday, starting at noon.
