T-Birds Score 13 in Game 1 Win, Fall in Game 2 at Gateway

Phoenix, AZ- 13 was the magic number in the first game against the Gateway Geckos Tuesday afternoon as the T-Birds had 13 runs on 13 hits, in a 13-4 game one victory.  Mesa's bats cooled a bit in game 2, as they fell, 6-3.

In game one, Mesa jumped ahead in the second inning when they pushed across three runs on three hits and two walks.  

Leadoff hitter Valerie Macias went 3-3 with four RBI's and a walk.  All three innings where she hit, Mesa managed to score two or more runs.

Starting pitcher Nikki Verdugo pitched five innings, giving up six hits and five walks while getting the victory.

Game two saw Mesa score in the first inning, while with Macias on base after leading off the game with a single, cleanup hitter Leighann Ballersteros singled to knock in Macias.  

The Geckos had a couple bats come alive as they had two major innings where they manufactured multiple runs which Mesa couldn't overcome.

The T-Birds are now 6-10 overall and 4-10 in the conference.  They will play at Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday, first pitch at noon.
