Second straight sweep; softball takes two from Chandler-Gilbert

  CHANDLER, AZ - For the second straight date the Mesa softball team swept a doubleheader, taking two at Chandler-Gilbert Tuesday, 5-2 and 12-8.

  In game one the T-Birds jumped to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the third inning including a two-run double by Alyssa Gallegos (Fr., Yuma, AZ/Cibola H.S.). She later added a solo home run, her third of the year. Shes finished 3-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored.

  Game two saw MCC put a pair of runs on the board in both the first and second inning and put things out of reach with a seven-run fifth.

  Four MCC players: Gallegos, Meggan Horn (So., Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino H.S.), Mariah Gonzales (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.), Natasha Mercado (Fr., Las Cruces, NM/Centennial H.S.) and Bridget Kruck (So., Lynden, Wash/Lynden Christian H.S.) all had two hits.

  The T-Birds will visit Scottsdale for two Saturday at noon.
