Surging softball takes two from Hesston (Kan.)

  MESA, AZ - The suddenly surging Mesa softball team swept a doubleheader from Hesston (Kan.), Tuesday, 12-4 in five innings and 13-10.

  MCC has now won ten of its last 14 games.

  In the first game, trailing 4-3, MCC exploded for ten runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game on the run rule.

  Brittney Ramos (Fr., Yuma, AZ/Kofa H.S.) had a huge game going 2-3 with four RBIs a double and a run scored. Korynn Molina (Fr., Tempe, AZ/Marcos de Niza H.S.) also had a pair of hits.

  In game two, MCC took control early and then had to fend off a rally by the Larks,

  With the T-Birds on top, 8-4, Hesston scored six in the top of the sixth to seize the lead, 10-8. But MCC answered immediately with five in its half of the inning. Kendra Whelan (So., Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino H.S.) had a two-run double to highlight the inning.

  Mariah Gonzales (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.) was 3-4 with an RBI, while Bridget Kruck (So., Lynden, Wash/Lynden Christian H.S.), Keileen Padilla (Fr. , Flagstaff, AZ/Flagstaff H.S.) and Molina each contributed two hits.

  Mesa plays on the road for the first time in 18 games Saturday, visiting Glendale at noon.
