Mesa's softball team sweeped a double header at Chandler-Gilbert Saturday afternoon, 6-4, 11-3.
The Thunderbirds jumped out early in game one by scoring four runs in the first inning, runs coming from the first four batters in the Mesa order.
Leadoff hitter Kendra Whalen(So., Flagstaff, AZ, Coconino H.S.) went 2-4 with two runs. Mesa finished with eight hits, three coming off doubles.
Game 2
It was a six run sixth inning that sealed the deal against the Coyotes as Mesa won game two, 11-3.
Mesa pounded out 13 hits, with four Mesa hitters going 2-3 at the plate, with Mariah Gonzales(So., Gilbert, AZ, Highland H.S.) having three RBI's.
Mesa scored three runs in the first and two runs in the fifth but it was the six hit, six run sixth inning that helped Mesa seal the double header sweep.
Mesa will back home next Tuesday for a double header against Scottsdale. First pitch is 1 p.m.
