Fuhrmann, McCumber, lead men's cross country to second place regional finish

  Tucson, AZ - With Flynn Fuhrmann finishing fourth overall and Andrew McCumber fifth, the Mesa men's cross country team placed second at the NJCAA Region I championship Friday at Silverlake Park.

  The T-Birds finished only behind defending national champion Central Arizona, 22-52. Paradise Valley was third with 68 points. The second place finish was MCC's best since 2016.

  Fuhrmann covered the 8k course in 25:35.7, his best time of the year. McCumber was right behind Fuhrmann in fifth place, clocked in 26:09.6. Jalen Chee took eighth place with a time of 26:36.7.

Fuhrmann and McCumber both earned first team all-region honors with Chee second team.

  The T-Birds will now head to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Nov. 9 in Albuquerque, N.M., the same course on which they opened the season at the New Mexico State Lobo Invitational.
