Rough day for men's tennis in NJCAA championship quarter finals

  Daytona Beach, Fla. – After a great day Tuesday the fifth-ranked Mesa men's tennis team had an equally rough one Wednesday at the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Championship.

Only fourth seeded Kyrylo Kryvchun continued his role into the semi-finals with a 6-3, 6-1 win over fifth-seeded Frederik Oervad of Eastern Florida. Kryvchun now faces top seeded Marcus Walters of Tyler Thursday.

  At No. 2, unseeded Gonzalo Fernandez gave the number four seed, Bruce Suiama of Cowley all he could handle before finally falling, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7.

  Maxim Kirsch, the five-seed, dropped a 3-6, 3-6, decision to fourth-seeded Carlos Izuieta of Seward, 3-6, 3-6 at No. 3.

  No. 1 seeded Andres Cabezas of ASA, proved too much for MCC's Johan Prinsen at No. 4, 4-6, 1-6.

  In the No. 5 match the six-seed, Sebastian Bunster of Eastern Florida, upset the T-Birds' No. 3 seed, Jorge Sala, 3-6, 6-7.

  At No. 6 singles second-seeded Alex Mesquita Berg of Seward, eliminated Lucas Severo, 0-6, 0-6.

  In doubles, MCC's sixth-seeded team at No. 1, Fernandez and Kryvchun, fell to third-seeded Alex Parker and Marcus Walters of Tyler, 3-6, 4-6.

  In the No. 3 flight fifth-seeded Corey Pabst and Prinsen  fell to the number four seeded team of Casey Edwards and Valter Oshiro of Cowley, 5-7, 0-2 retired.

  At No. 2 doubles, in the consolation round, Kirsch and Severo lost to Nicolas Mougaillard and Killian Dagneaux of Cowley, 3-6, 4-6.
