Cuoto, two doubles teams, reach men's tennis nationals semi-finals

  Plano, Texas – It was a huge day for Eduardo Cuoto at the NJCAA Division I Men's Tennis National Championship as he reached the semi-finals in both singles and doubles by knocking off seeded opponents in both matches.

  He and two MCC doubles teams will see action Thursday in semi-final matches. The T-Birds are currently in fifth place with 27 points.

  The day began for Cuoto with a win over third-seeded Colton Phillips of ABCA, 6-2, 6-4. He will take on Jose Castro of Cowley at 9:30.

  He then teamed with Matt Fisher to oust the top-seeded No. 3 doubles team of Duro Opacic and Przemek of Seward Co. 6-2, 1-6, 6-1. The MCC pair will meet fourth seeded Myrohn Miranda and Matias Vargas of Laredo at 12:30.

  Meanwhile, Mesa's No. 2 doubles team of Gergo Rendek and David Felix, which is seeded fifth, topped the No. 3 seeded team of Alex Mosehle and Gabriel Nery of Seward Co., 6-2, 7-5. MCC will face second seeded Tin Chen and Kentaro Mizushima of ASA Miami at 12:30 in the semi-finals.

  Falling in singles play was Felix who lost to top seeded Ferran Calvo of Tyler, 4-6, 1-4 retired. Also, fifth-seeded Linus Holthey lost in a No. 2 singles match to No. 4 seed Duro Opacic, of Seward Co., 3-6, 1-6. In addition, Rendek dropped a No. 5 singles match to No. 4 seed Eymeric Chevalier of ABAC , 3-6, 6-3, 5-7.
