Men's and Women's Tennis Are Regular Season ACCAC Champions; Both Have Perfect Seasons

MESA, AZ – Perfect.  

That is the only description of the Mesa men's and women's ACCAC tennis seasons after both teams swept Glendale, 9-0, Tuesday in their final regular season matches.  

Each team won all of its conference matches with all being by 9-0 scores.  

Tuesday, the MCC women visited the Gauchos and ran their record to 17-1 and 8-0 in ACCAC play.  

The T-Birds lost a total of just five games of a possible 96 with three singles players winning 6-0, 6-0.  

Hannah Nelson, at No. 4, Maria Garduno at No. 5 and Julia Ortiz at No. 6 all blanked their opponents.  Garduno and Yolanda Canlon teamed to win No. 2 doubles 8-0 as did Nelson and Ortiz at No. 3.  

The fifth-ranked MCC men, now 12-1 and 6-0 in conference, were almost as dominant in blanking the No. 19 Gauchos.  Eduardo Cuoto, at No. 4 singles won 6-0, 6-0 and 30th-ranked Max Wightman won at No. 3 6-0, 6-1.  

Both teams will play in the Region I championships April 19-20, the women playing at home and the men at Glendale.
