Men's tennis cruises to Region I title with almost perfect score

  GLENDALE, AZ - The Mesa men's tennis team cruised to an easy Region I championship, claiming every flight in which it was able to compete.

  Having to default at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles limited MCC to a total of 16 points with 18 being a perfect score.

  The T-Birds did win five singles crowns: No. 1 Harry Busby (So., England); No. 2 Max Wightman (Fr., Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain H.S.); No. 3 Nick Silvestri (Fr., Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep H.S.); No. 4 Vitali Kotenianets (Fr., Ukraine) and No. 6 Andy Nguyen (So., Bien Hoa, Vietnam/Hamilton (AZ) H.S.).

  Busby and Wightman won at No. 1 doubles and Kevin McMahon (So., Tempe, AZ/Corona Del Sol H.S.) took the title at No. 3.

  The T-Birds will head to the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Plano, Texas, May 11-15.
