Danny Baca Records Hat Trick in 5-0 Win Over Gateway

Mesa, AZ - Mesa attacked and they attacked hard as they defeated the Gateway Geckos Tuesday afternoon, 5-0.  Leading the charge was Danny Baca, who recorded three of Mesa's five goals on the day.

It was Kevin Olivarez who started the scoring first though for the T-Birds in the 13th minute, getting an assist from Danny Baca.  But then it was Baca who lead the scoring charge for Mesa, connecting on two first half goals in the 20th and 23rd minutes to help the T-Birds take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Mesa's offensive pressure did not let up in the second half as the T-Birds put relentless pressure on the backline of the Geckos.  The T-Birds did get its fourth goal on a deflection from Gateway's own player so no T-Bird accounted for the goal but a nice throw in by Chris Kontos set up the goal itself.

Then it was Baca who finalized the scoring as he headed it in on an assist from Marcos Hernandez, who finished with two assists on the afternoon.

In the net, Morgan Barta recorded his third straight shut out of the season as the T-Birds move to 2-0-1 on the season.

Mesa will have the rest of the week off then will play at Phoenix College next Tuesday, September 4th at 4:30 pm.
