Season Opener Ends Early Due to Lightning, 0-0 Final. Women's Game Postponed

Scottsdale, AZ - The rain began to fall near the end of the first half during the men's soccer game Thursday afternoon and from there on out it was the weather that took center stage.

Neither team had scored with 12 minutes to play in the second half before the match was halted due to lightning.  Per league rules, each team and all the fans must leave the stadium for at least 30 minutes from the postponement.  The skies however never cleared up and because the match had been played for at least 70 minutes, it was registered as an official game.

The T-Birds had a close call bounce off the left post in the first half along with several corner kicks in the second half to break the zero tie but they all came as naught.

The women's game was postponed to a later date.

Each team will be back in action this coming Saturday at home against Glendale with the men starting at 4:30 pm and the women starting at 7 pm.
