Men
The T-Birds were in a must win situation heading into their season finale against the Paradise Valley Pumas Thursday night. A win would almost solidify a sixth spot in the ACCAC playoffs. Mesa secured that victory with a 5-2 victory over the Pumas.
Brian Perea scored the first goal of the game for Mesa 1:58 into the match. Right before half, Aaron Alvarez kicked in the second goal with the assist coming from Pedro Garcia.
Paradise Valley scored their two goals within the first twenty minutes of the second half but mesa had goals from Obedd Fuentes, Jose Soto and Seth Krueger to give Mesa the three goal victory.
With the victory, Mesa finishes the regular season with a 9-10-1 record. At the moment, they sit as the sixth seed in the ACCAC playoffs. Glendale needs to win and at least tie in their last two matches of the season to knock Mesa out of the playoffs. If Mesa does indeed earn the sixth seed, playoffs would begin on Monday, October 26th at the higher seed.
Women
The women's soccer team dropped their last regular season game Thursday night to Paradise Valley, 3-1. Even with the loss, Mesa will head into the ACCAC playoffs Tuesday night at three seed Phoenix College.
Mesa scored their lone goal in the second half by Sydney White. The T-Birds finished the regular season 7-12-1.
The T-Birds lost just two weeks ago at Phoenix College, 4-1.
