MESA, AZ - Ari Sanchez (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.) tallied in each half to lead the Mesa men's soccer team to a 4-2 win over South Mountain in ACCAC action Thursday at John D. Riggs Stadium.
With the win MCC begins the second half of the ACCAC season with a 7-4 record. SMCC is 1-10.
Sanchez scored first in the 16th minute with an assist from Brian Perea (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mesa H.S.).
After the Cougars evened the count with a goal by Alex Garcia, MCC pulled head to stay when Julian Galvan (So., Mesa, AZ/Westwood H.S.) tallied with help from Mikey Aguirre (So., Chandler, AZ/Perry H.S.).
It stood that way at halftime until Sanchez netted his second goal in the 62nd minute with the assist going to Justin Erickson (Fr., Long Beach, Calif/Wilson H.S.).
Perea then added the clincher in the 73rd minute with an assist credited to Max Schmidt (Fr., Cancun, Mexico/Corina del Sol (AZ) H.S.).
MCC will travel to Arizona Western for a 1:00 p.m. contest Saturday.
