PHOENIX, AZ - Hoping to build on its first playoff appearance in several years last season, the Mesa men's soccer team got its 2014 year off to a rousing start with a 7-0 win at South Mountain.
Max Schmidt (Fr., Cancun, Mexco/Corona del Sol (AZ) H.S.) and Edgar Levya, pictured right, (So., Yuma, AZ/Kofa H.S.) each had a pair of goals to lead the T-Birds.
In addition, Brian Perea (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mesa H.S.) scored once and assisted on four MCC scores.
Ignacio Rios (So., Mesa, AZ/Dobson H.S.), and Ari Sanchez (So., Gilbert, AZ/Highland H.S.) had the other goals for Mesa.
Matt Hall (Fr., Shreveport, La./Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.), Ben Nelson (So., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) and Julian Galvan (So., Mesa, AZ/Westwood H.S.) each carded an assist.
The T-Birds will have the home opener Thursday when the host Arizona Western at 5:30 p.m. at John D. Riggs Stadium.
