MESA, AZ - Two penalty kicks awarded to Pima in the final 11 minutes helped the Aztecs overcome a 3-1 deficit en route to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Mesa men's soccer team Thursday night at John D. Riggs Stadium.

The final penalty kick came with just 2:11 to play and was called on a corner kick by PCC. The other was at the 11:17 mark. Alexis Medina scored on both, forcing overtime. Less than two and a half minutes into extra play Arturo Vega netted the game-winner, his second goal of the game.

Mesa had jumped in front 3-0 in the first half.

Dayne Johnson, pictured right, (Fr., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.) opened the scoring with his third goal of the season with 34:11 remaining in the first half. Julio Becerra (So., Mesa, AZ/Skyline H.S.) tallied less than three minutes later, his first score of the season.

With 8:51 left in the half Cesar Sandoval (So., Rockford, Ill/Desert Vista (AZ) H.S.) gave MCC a 3-0 lead with his third score of the year. Vega's first goal of the night, with 4:07 on the clock in the opening half, trimmed Mesa's lead to 3-1 at the break.

Mesa, now 9-8-2, will have its playoff hopes riding on Saturday's regular season finale at Chandler-Gilbert, a 7:00 p.m. contest.
