Men's golf trails by three heading into regional final day
Gold Canyon, AZ – The men's golf team had a three-shot deficit to try to overcome as it headed into Sunday's final round of the Region I, Division II championship at the Gold Canyon G.C. Sidewinder Course.
MCC posted a 295 total on Saturday, but South Mountain carded a 292 to break what had been a second-round tie. Mesa has a 54-hole total of 868 to the Cougars' 865.
Two of the T-Birds were tied for the individual lead. Jake Guess has posted a 72-70-71—213, while Austin Hardman sits at 70-71-72—213.
However, SMCC has the next three individuals led by Leon D'Souza who is third at 70-71-73—214.
For the T-Birds, Ryan Porter is tied for sixth place with a 70-76-76-222, Brad Pottle is ninth with a 75-73-76—224 and Zane Smith tenth having carded a 77-72-80—229.
The champion will advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championship in Foley, Ala., May 21-24.
