#7 men's golf second after day one at South Mountain Invitational

  Phoenix, AZ – The seventh-ranked men's golf team shot a solid, even-par, 284 on the first day of the South Mountain Invitational, but still trailed the hosts by eight shots.

  SMCC countered with a 276 over the Legacy G.C. course. Eastern Arizona was third at 288.

  Zane Smith fired a season-best two-under 69 to pace MCC and tie for third place.

  Jake Guess and Ryan Porter were both even-par with 71s to tie for sixth. Brad Pottle came in at two-over 73 and is tied for 12th.

  The tournament ends Tuesday.
