Kelley's 70 leads men's golf to third place tie after first day of DII nationals

  Mesa, AZ – Jeff Kelley fired a one-under-par 70 to lead a solid team effort by the Mesa men's golf team that saw the T-Birds in a tie for third place on the first day of the NJCAA Division II championship Tuesday.

  Kelley led a group that saw all five players shoot 74 or better. Mississippi Gulf Coast blistered the Longbow G.C. course for a seven-under team total of 277 to lead by eight shots over Tyler. MCC is tied with Murray (Okla.) State at 287.

  Kelley, who is tied for fourth individually, was joined by Gage Grimes who carded an even-par 71. That tied him for ninth place. Right behind were Dean Harpe and Jacob Guess at 73, good for a 19th place tie.

  The T-Birds' non-counting score was a 74 by Bradley Pottle which had him tied for 29th place.

  The tournament continues each day through Friday.
