Men's golf holds eight-shot lead after first day at Chandler-Gilbert Inv.
MESA, AZ - Firing a 13-under par 275 the Mesa men's golf team grabbed an eight-shot lead after the first of two days at the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational. The 275 equalled Mesa's best round in the last three years.
With Alex Lobeck (So., Mandan, ND/Perry (AZ) H.S.) and T.J. Kathrineberg (Fr., Mesa, AZ) leading the way wih a five-under 67s, MCC put three players among the top five. Lobeck and Katherineberg were tied for second place, one shot behind Ben Harden, of South Mountain.
The T-Birds are eight shots up on South Mountain and 19 ahead of Pima and Scottsdale.
Austin Fletcher (So., Memphis, Tenn/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.) had 69 to tie for fourth place.
Bryce Melville (Fr., Morinville, Alberta/Sturgeon H.S.) and Alex Trevino (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite H.S.) both shot even-par 72s to tie for ninth place.
The event concludes Wednesday.
