Men's Golf Takes Second at NJCAA Championship

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- The Mesa men's golf team finished as the national-runner up in the NJCAA Division II golf tournament with a team score of 1200 on the Black Course at Swan Lake Resort Friday.

Walters State CC captured first place with a total a score of 1189 while Mississippi Gulf Coast finished third with an overall 1214 team score.

  The second place finish was the best in MCC history. The T-Birds have been third on three occasions.

  Ryan Witte (So., Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista H.S.) was MCC's top finisher, placing seventh with a 70-75-76-75--296. 

  Jacob Monplaisir (So., Gilbert, AZ/Dobson H.S.) was 11th, carding a 77-74-74-73--298.

  Austin Fletcher (Fr., Memphis, Tenn/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.) was 19th at 77-76-76-73--302.

  Ben Potter (So., Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe H.S.) was tied for 32nd with a 74-74-76-82--306.

  Justin Hyder (So., Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe H.S.) shot 80-74-77-82--313 and tied for 51st.

 Witte earned first team All-America honors, Montplaisir was second team and Fletcher honorable mention.

Witte and Montplaisir both were named to the all-tournament team.
