58 Point 2nd Half Powers Mesa Basketball Past Central Arizona in 94-74 Victory

Mesa, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds men's basketball team won Saturday afternoon, 94-74, against the Central Arizona Vaqueros at Theo Heap Gym.

Down by three at halftime, 39-36, Mesa looked nearly impossible to stop in the second half, shooting 61 percent (19-31) from the field and connecting on 18-20 (90%) free-throws.  For the game, Mesa shot 33-67 (49.3%) while making an impressive 25-29 free-throws (86.2%).

Leading the way for Mesa was Rajhan Billingsley, scoring 28 points with four rebounds, four assists and five steals.  He also connected on every free-throw attempt he shot, 11-11.  Right next to him in the 20 point catagory with Kyle Fischer, who scored 22 points, pulled down seven rebounds and had three steals.

One major stat that jumps off the page was turnovers and point off turnovers.  Central Arizona had 21 turnovers which Mesa turned into 25 points.  Mesa committed just seven turnovers resulting in just four points for the Vaqueros.  Mesa also dominated in the paint as the T-Birds scored 54 points to just 32 for Central.

With the win, Mesa moves to 12-8 overall and 8-5 in ACCAC play.  The T-Birds will hit the road for two straight games, first at Phoenix College on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm, then at Glendale next Saturday at 4 pm.
