Seward County Pulls Out Victory Over Mesa Late, 58-50, T-Birds to Play for 3rd Place

Mesa, AZ - It was anyone's ballgame in the final few minutes of Friday night's semi-final matchup between the Mesa Thunderbirds and Seward County Saints but when the clock hit zero's, the Saints took the 58-50 victory to move on to the Fiesta Bowl Junior College Shootout championship game Saturday night.

Exchanging tie's and leads throughout the game, it was two runs by the Saints that made the difference in the final tally.  With the score 22-21 with 3:38 to play in the first half, Seward County was able to finish the half on a 7-1 run to take a halftime lead, 29-22.

The Saints extended that lead into the second half, going up 39-30 with just under 14 minutes to play.  That's when Mesa chipped away at the deficit, eventually taking the lead at the eight minute mark when Cam Burist connected on a three-pointer to make a 43-41 affair.  However, Seward County finished the final eight minutes on a 17-7 run, solidifying its spot in the championship game.

Mesa will now play in the 3rd place game on Saturday afternoon which will begin at 4 pm.
