Mesa Blows Past Jegos in 81-57 Victory

Mesa, AZ - Improving its record to 4-1 on the season while also earning its first conference win of the season, the Mesa Thunderbirds men's basketball team defeated the Tohono O'odham Jegos, 81-57, Tuesday night at Theo Heap Gym.

Leading the scoring for Mesa was sophomore guard Elijah Moore, who poured in 19 points on 8-18 shooting while also collecting five assists and four rebounds.

Though the T-Birds finished with a 24 point victory, the Jegos made it close halfway through the second half, cutting the Mesa lead to just two at 50-48.  After a Mesa timeout however, the T-Birds finished the game on a 31-9 run, using Jego turnovers for easy fast-break points.  On the night, Mesa forced 26 turnovers which led to 23 T-Bird points.

Also scoring in double figures for the Thunderbirds was Rajhan Billingsly, scoring 13, while Kyle Fischer finished with 10 points and collected five steals.

Mesa will have the rest of the week off then be back in action next Wednesday night at Central Arizona College beginning at 7:30 pm.
