Men's BBall Stumble in 2nd Half in Loss to Arizona Western, 66-61

Yuma, AZ - The Mesa Thunderbirds men's basketball team lost Wednesday night to Arizona Western, 66-61.

Mesa came out of the gates knocking down three pointers, first from Bryce Cheney then by Jamil Wilson-Jones.  Wilson-Jones and Cheney ended the game as Mesa's high scorers, as Wilson-Jones ended with 24 points and Cheney with 19 points.

Both teams kept close with each other in the first half, with the largest lead by either team being only three.  A couple Noe Anabir free-throws with under a minute to go helped Mesa take a 34-32 lead.

The Matadors though started the second half on a 9-2 run, taking and never letting go of the lead for the rest of the game.

A Wilson-Jones three pointer with 32 seconds left cut the Matador lead at 64-61 but Mesa couldn't convert on their final possession and Western finalized the five point victory.

Mesa moves to 13-8 overall and 8-6 in the ACCAC conference.  The T-Birds will head to Tohono O'Odham on Saturday.
