Cochise Gets the Better of Mesa, 76-71

Mesa, AZ - The ACCAC men's basketball conference has been run either by the Cochise Apaches or Mesa Thunderbirds the past couple season so it left little doubt that Saturday's matchup would be electric.  The T-Birds and Apaches gave the crowd their money's worth but it was the Apaches who came out on top, 76-71.

Cochise took full momentum in the first part of the game, jumping out to a 15-4 lead in the first eight minutes.  But two Antwan Ross-Jones three pointers and another three from Adonis Arms help Mesa cut the Apache lead to 18-17.

Arms continued the offensive attack for Mesa to take the lead, 20-18, with a jump shot and free throw.  With five minutes left though, Cochise regained the lead, maintaining control of the lead until halftime.  Cochise nailed a three as the zero's went up to take a 37-31 lead at halftime.

Austin Denham connected on a three pointer and Noe Anabir made two free throws in the first minute of the second half to cut Cochise's lead to 37-36.  Mesa eventually tied the game at 45 with 14 minutes to play in the game.

Both teams then exchanged buckets but everytime the game was tied, it was Cochise that would get the go ahead shot to break the tie.  Within the last 10 minutes, there were five total ties.

The Mesa Thunderbirds move to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the ACCAC conference.  They will be on the road on Wednesday night at Pima in Tucson, AZ.
