Mesa Holds Off Late Coyote Comeback to Win, 71-59

Mesa, AZ - Entering conference play, Mesa has had to battle to earn their undefeated status.  The Coyotes Saturday afternoon gave Mesa another tough battle but the T-Birds prevailed, 71-59.

Mesa was lead by their sophomores, Obi Megwa and Edward Hardt, who each finished with 14 points on the evening.  Hardt also finished the night with five and rebounds and five steals.

It was a one point game, 26-25, until two minutes remaining in the first half when Mesa went on a 7-1 run.  Mesa's Jamil Wilson-Jones made a layup and free throw with Jeff McCain adding a dunk.  Adonis Arms made a layup to give Mesa a 33-26 advantage at half.

Five minutes into the second half, Mesa held a 41-34 advantage but the Coyotes fought back, closing the Mesa gap to 43-41.  A Megwa three and jump shots from Noe Anabir and Keaton Ranger pushed Mesa's lead back to eight with 10 minutes to play in the game.

Chandler-Gilbert though would not fold, as they again cut the T-Bird advantage to 55-54, all within a five minute span.  But Mesa again rattled off eight straight points to extend their lead to 63-54 with three minutes to play.

The T-Birds then controlled last few minutes to hang on for the conference win and remain undefeated on the season.
