Men claim 20th win with 97-75 victory over Eastern Arizona

MESA, AZ - Raining three-pointers in the first half, the Mesa men went on to a 95-75 win over Eastern Arizona Saturday at Theo Heap Gym, claiming their 20th win of the season. It was MCC's third straight year over 20 victories.

The T-Birds  (20-7, 17-4) left little doubt about this one from the moment Khari Holloway (So., Jackson, Miss/Mountain Pointe (AZ) H.S.) hit a three-pointer just 22 seconds into the contest.

That was one of three MCC made on its first three attempts with Jordan Pratt (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) and Nate Jimerson (Fr., Bullhead City, AZ/Mohave H.S.) following.

The Thunderbirds quickly shot to a 14-4 lead, en route to a 54-42 halftime margin, making nine threes along the way. They finished with 12, equalling their season high set the first time they faced EAC.

The Gila Monsters (12-17, 6-15) made the first basket of the second half, but MCC ripped off eight unanswered points and cruised to the win, eventually leading by as many as 28.

Mesa placed five in double figures led by Andrew Jones (So., Portland, Ore/Westview H.S.) who had 22, including 6-13 three-point shooting. Holloway finished with 17. Jimerson added a season-high 13, while Kyle Bingham (Fr., Mesa, AZ/Mountain View H.S.) had 12 and Charles Wardell (So., Milwaukee, Wisc/Northwest Secondary H.S.) contributed ten. Mitch Burnett (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Central H.S) barely missed double figures with eight points and had nine rebounds.

Warren Smith paced EAC with 24 points and Reggie Oliver scored 18.

MCC closes the regular season hosting Tohono O'odham Tuesday at Theo Heap Gym at 7:30.

The Region I tournament begins Saturday, Feb. 28 at home at 7:30 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
