Glendale Ruins Mesa's Homecoming, T-Birds Fall, 19-14

Mesa, AZ - The Glendale Gauchos foiled all the fun on Mesa's homecoming as the Gauchos defeated the Mesa Thunderbirds, 19-14, Saturday night at John D. Riggs Stadium.

Glendale began the scoring in the first quarter with a two yard touchdown run.  On Mesa's next possession, the T-Birds were forced into a punting situation but the Gaucho punt returner misplayed the bounce and Mesa recovered in prime scoring real estate.

Terrance Roberts Jr. then punched it in to help Mesa take its first lead of the game, 7-6.  Just before the second quarter however, the Gauchos connected on a 30 yard touchdown pass to regain the lead, 13-7.

Neither team could garner much offense until the fourth quarter when Mesa regained the lead, 14-13, when quarterback Tyler Worrell found Tylon Patterson for a touchdown connection.

But Glendale refused to settle back and with eight minutes to play in the game, they scored on another long run play to take a 19-14 lead.  The two-point attempt failed.  Mesa had a few more possession but failed to make any points, dropping its fourth game of the season and falling to 1-3 in conference play.

Mesa will be back in action next week at Scottsdale with a daytime start of 12 pm.
