Artichoke Aerial Attack Dooms T-Birds in 52-35 Defeat

Mesa, AZ - The #20 Mesa Thunderbirds lost Saturday night to the #19 Scottsdale Artichokes, 52-35, at John D. Riggs Stadium in a Western States Football League game.

It was the Artichokes, who had five touchdowns through the air, that kept Mesa on their heels all night.

Also tripping up the T-Birds was a rough two minute spell that occured a minute before halftime and one minute into the second half.  Scottsdale scored on a long pass as time was near expiring to tie the game at 21.  Mesa received the second half kickoff but the T-Birds fumbled it and it was recovered by the Artichokes, in prime scoring position.

Scottsdale did just that as they scored on a four yard rush play just 47 seconds into the half.  The momentum fell to Scottsdale the rest of the night.

Mesa's Thomas MacVittie did throw three touchdown passes on the night and Terrance Roberts Jr. had two rushing touchdowns.

Mesa moves to 2-1 on the season.  The T-Birds will have a bye next weekend then they will travel down to Arizona Western on September 22nd for 7 pm matchup with the Matadors.
