#10 Snow Powers Through #6 Mesa, 59-36

Mesa, AZ - In a penalty filled, three and a half hour, 95 combined point game, it was the #10 Snow Badgers that came out on top of the #6 Mesa Thunderbirds Saturday night, 59-36.

The T-Birds jumped out in the scoring column first when Sonnie Richardson took a quick pass 81 yards to the house to give Mesa the 7-0 advantage.  But the Badgers answered right back on its next possession, scoring on a pass play from 10 yards out.

On the ensuing kickoff, Mesa's Andrew Banks busted loose down the left sideline for a 96 yard kickoff return for touchdown.  The touchdown was annulled however because of an illegal block in the back penalty, which set Mesa back past the 50 yard line.  The Badgers then picked off Mesa quarterback Christian Lopez to set up its next scoring drive.  The Badgers from there seized all momentum.

Snow would rattle off 28 unanswered points before Lopez was able to connect with Darius Aguirre on a 13 yard touchdown pass at the 7:30 mark of the second quarter to make the score 35-14.  The Badgers would add 10 more points before heading to halftime with a 45-21 lead.

Lopez would throw two more of his four touchdown passes on the night in the second half, a three yarder to Deyton Jackson then the final score of the game by either team, a two yarder to Aguirre.

But it was the Snow offense that couldn't be contained as they finished with seven total touchdown runs, with their only passing touchdown coming early in the first quarter, and one field goal.

Mesa moves to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in the WSFL rankings.  The T-Birds will be on the road the next three games, first at Glendale next Saturday night, then at Scottsdale on the 30th and then at Phoenix College on October 7th.
