Football Jumps Four Spots to #6 in Latest NJCAA Polls

The second NJCAA football rankings of the season came out Wednesday afternoon and the Mesa Thunderbirds jump four spots to the #6 position.  Mesa defeated the Phoenix College Bears, 40-10, in week two while enjoying a bye in week one.

It was a good week for the T-Birds as quarterback Christian Lopez earned Western States Football League Offensive Player of the Week honors. Lopez finished the night with 243 passing yards on 25-36 passing with three touchdown passes.  He began the game with eight straight completions and connected with 11 total receivers on the night.  For Lopez and the T-Birds, this is their first WSFL Player of the Week honors this season.

Mesa will head to Eastern Arizona this coming Saturday to face a Gila Monster team that was initially ranked #19 in the preseason polls but dropped out due to their loss against #1 Arizona Western this past Saturday.
