#10 T-Birds Fly Past PC Bears in Season Opener, 40-10

The Mesa Thunderbirds rolled a bit of some its 2016 magic into the 2017 season opener as they defeated the Phoenix College Bears, 40-10, Saturday night at John D. Riggs Stadium.

One of the main hero's from that '16 team was wideout Darius Aguirre, who hauled in the winning touchdown reception in the Valley of the Sun Bowl just 10 short months ago.  Aguirre again dazzled the T-Bird faithful as he zipped his way to a 70 yard punt return touchdown to aid in a Mesa's lead, a lead that was held by the T-Birds all night.

"It's good to knock some rust off in a real game," said Mesa Head Coach Ryan Felker, "we need to build off this and focus on Eastern Arizona."

#19 Eastern Arizona played host to the #1 team in the country in Arizona Western tonight down in Thatcher, with the Matadors pulling out a seven point victory, 21-14.  Mesa will take on the Gila Monsters next weekend in Thatcher in what will be Mesa's first big test of the season.

Official stats from tonight's Mesa-PC game will be posted in the next few days.
