Mesa to open WSFL playoffs Nov. against New Mexico Military at 1 p.m.

MESA, AZ - Mesa will open play in the WSFL consolation playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 1 against New Mexico Military in an unusual 1 p.m. starting time.

It will be the fourth trip to Mesa for the Broncos from Roswell, N.M., in the last two seasons. They opened 2012 at John D. Riggs Stadium and then came back for the semi-finals of the WSFL championship playoffs.

This year, NMMI made the trek again, on Sept. 27. MCC made a stirring comeback with 27 unanswered fourth quarter points to take a 53-40 victory. The T-Birds also won the two games last season.

Mesa put together nearly 500 yards of total offense in the first meeting this year. Quarterback Austin Apodaca (So., Longmont, Colo/Silver Creek H.S.) set a school record with six touchdown passes and running back Carlton Williams (So., Avondale, AZ/Warren Central H.S.) ran for 118 yards on 15 attempts.

MCC will play another playoff game Nov. 8 at a site and an opponent yet to be determined.
