Payne named WSFL defensive Player of the Week

  MESA, AZ - Mesa linebacker Wesley Payne (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Mountain Pointe H.S.) has been named WSFL defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the T-Birds' 36-20 win at Pima Saturday night.

  Payne was in on an amazing 20 tackles, including eight solo. In addition, he intercepted a pass and broke up another.

  For the season, Payne is tied for second on the MCC squad with 36 total tackles and is also tied for eighth in the nation with an average of 12.0 per game.

  Mesa takes its two-game winning streak on the road Saturday when it visits Eastern Arizona for a WSFL contest at 7:00 p.m.
