Carter Robinson Throws Complete Game Ace, Ben Ferguson Homers to Power Mesa to 2-0 Game One Victory

Enid, OK - Be it on the comforts of his own dirt mound at Mesa or 992 miles away on an artificial mound in Enid, Oklahoma, Carter Robinson can straight pitch.

Following two complete games during the Region I tournament a few weeks back, Robinson pitched a complete game gem in Mesa's opening round game against the Lincoln Land Loggers.  A complete game shutout no less.

The T-Birds tallied a 2-0 victory to advance to Tuesday afternoons matchup against the winner of either #2 Madison and #7 Northeast.  The 2-0 final was the lowest scoring game in a World Series hosted in Enid, OK.

Mesa scored its first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Greg Student single to center field, scoring Taylor Darden, who reached by way of the walk.

Then to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, the big fella, Ben Ferguson, hit a laser over the right field wall, a solo shot, to push Mesa's lead to 2-0.  Ferguson finished 2-4 on the day.  That's all the run leverage Carter Robinson needed on the mound.

Robinson on the day pitched nine innings, allowed only four hits, no walks and struck out nine batters.

"It was one of the best pitching performances on such a big stage that I've seen in my years," said Mesa Head Coach Tony Cirelli.

Depending on the outcome of the Madison-Northeast game and also the weather forcast, Tuesday's game is scheduled for 1 pm.  Continue to check the mesatbirdsports.com website for updates and game times.
