Carter Robinson Throws Complete Game, T-Bird Offense Explodes for 11-2 Game One Victory Thursday Afternoon
Mesa, AZ - The #1 Mesa Thunderbirds took game one of the Region I / ACCAC DII semi-final match over the #4 Glendale Gauchos Thursday afternoon, 11-2.
The T-Birds had great pitching on the mound from sophomore ace, Carter Robinson. The tall guy pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and two runs, one earned while striking out 10, earning his first victory this post-season.
On the offensive side, Mesa collected 16 total hits, getting on base with bunt singles and triples into the gaps. Taylor Darden, Josh Leslie and Cade Maestas each collected triples for Mesa. Darden was just a homerun shy of the cycle, as he went 3-5 on the day with two RBI's. Leslie also collected three hits on the day, going 3-4 with two runs scored.
Cade Maestas, Luke Patty, Connor Denning and Greg Student each had two hits on the day for the Birds.
With the win, Mesa takes a 1-0 series lead on the Gauchos. Game two is Friday, May 3rd at MCC, first pitch at 3 pm.
