#3 Mesa Baseball Splits Two at Arizona Western, 6-2, 7-6

Yuma, AZ - The #3 Mesa Thunderbirds split a double-header with the Arizona Western Matadors Tuesday afternoon, 6-2, 7-6.

Mesa took the second game of the day, though the Matadors made it a bit closer at the end.  Holden Bernhardt held the Matadors scoreless for six innings, striking out 10 in the process.

Offensively, Kelby Richardson connected on his second homer of the season, one of Mesa's seven runs scored in game two.  The Matadors however erased a seven run deficit and cut Mesa's lead to 7-6, all in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Though the Matadors were threatening, the T-Birds were able to get the split.

Mesa now has a 32-7 overall record and a 17-7 ACCAC record.  Mesa will have a two game series this weekend with Glendale, beginning Friday at Glendale for a 3 pm start, then Saturday at home for a noon first pitch.
