3-Run Homer by Riley Peterson in 4-Run Sixth Inning Propels Mesa to Victory at Scottsdale, 4-3

Scottsdale, AZ - The #15 Mesa Thunderbirds used a four run sixth inning to defeat the Scottsdale Artichokes, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Scottsdale CC.

It was a Riley Peterson three-run homer off the scoreboard that capped the four run sixth inning, taking the lead for Mesa at that point, 4-2.  For Peterson, he went 1-3 on the day, with three RBI's, hitting his second homerun of the season.

To begin the scoring for the T-Birds, Paul Steffenson singled and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Garrett LaBrecheBen Lewis singled in the inning and Marcus Skundrich walked and each scored on the Peterson homerun.

On the mound for Mesa, Joshua Brown started, going four innings, allowing four hits, two unearned runs, striking out six and walking two.  Richard Walker earned the win, throwing two and third innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, one strikeout and one walk.  Jake Denham pitched two innings, allowing two hits, four strikeouts and one walk with Nolan Ruff getting the save, pitching two-thirds innings with two strikeouts, each coming with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Mesa moves to 22-3 on the season and 11-3 in ACCAC play.  The T-Birds will play a Tuesday-Wednesday series with Chandler-Gilbert, first at MCC, then at CGCC with a 3 pm start each day.
