#15 Mesa Sweeps Double-Header With Ben U, 5-0, 6-2 Finals

Mesa, AZ - The #15 Mesa Thunderbirds baseball team finished off a solid opening weekend with three victories over the Benedictine University JV team.  After a 6-1 win on Friday, Mesa won 5-0 in game one and 6-2 in game two of a double-header Saturday.

In game one, Mesa scored quickly in the bottom half of the first as leadoff hitter Greg Student was plunked and then advanced to third on an error from the bat of Garrett LeBreche.  Ben Lewis then hit behind the runner into an out but it scored Student from third to make a 1-0 game.  

Riley Peterson copied Lewis in his out to second but that score LeBreche to make it 2-0.  Connor Denning then singled and he scored on a single from Paul Steffenson to make it a 3-0 game.

The T-Birds scored two more runs to finish off the 5-0 victory.  

In game two, Mesa singled three times, scoring two runs in the first inning.  The T-Birds tacked on a run in the third, two in the eighth and one in the ninth to secure their third victory of the season.

Mesa will play at Arizona Christian on Monday at 3 pm then back at home against Arizona Christian at 3 pm.   They will play Grand Canyon Club on Thursday at home at 3 pm then a double-header on Saturday against the University of Arizona Club team, with game one at noon.
