Baseball Redeems Itself with Game 2 Semi-Final Win, 12-2 (5): Deciding Game 3 Tomorrow

Mesa, AZ- The Mesa Thunderbirds quickly forgot about the rough game they played Thursday against Glendale with a convincing 12-2, five inning victory, to notch the Regional Semi-Final series at 1-1.

The Gauchos struck first in the opening inning when they scored one run on two hits but Mesa shut down any hope of a Gaucho upset as they pushed across two runs in the second inning and then opening the flood gates in the third and fourth inning as they knocked in a combined 10 runs, six in the third and four in the fourth.

Catcher Mike Roberson went 3-3 with a double and four RBI's.  Kody Funderburk went 2-3 with three RBI's and two runs.

The lefty sophomore Matt Mosca took to the hill and pitched a five inning complete game, allowing five hits, two runs while striking out six.  (In post season play, if a team is up by ten runs after the fifth inning, the game is called.  During the regular season, the game has to get to the seventh inning to be called.)

The winner of the rubber match tomorrow will continue on to next week's Region Championship against Gateway, who beat Scottsdale in two games Thursday and Friday.

Tomorrows game between Mesa and Glendale will be at noon at Mesa CC.
