Late rally fails as baseball falls to GateWay, 4-3

PHOENIX, AZ - Falling behind 4-0 in the first two innings, Mesa tried to rally but fell just short in a 4-3 loss at GateWay Tuesday.

The T-Birds (34-13, 21-12) have now lost four straight and will try to end the string against the Geckos (23-25, 13-20) Wednesday at home at 3:00 p.m.

GWCC jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first with five hits, and then tagged on another in the second.

Meanwhile, MCC was held in check with just three hits through the first six innings until finally breaking through in the seventh.

Mitchell Morimoto (Fr., Issaquah, Wash/Issaquah H.S.) walked and was doubled home by Brady Bate (Fr., Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.). Jacob Boston (Fr., Chandler, AZ/Hamilton H.S.) then delivered an RBI single.

Mesa added another in the eighth on successive base hits by Jordan Zimmerman (So., Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain H.S.) and Morimoto.

Bate and Boston each finished with a pair of hits.
