Baseball takes fifth straight, tops Utah State Club, 5-1

  MESA, AZ - Finishing a week of non-confrence games, Mesa took down the Utah State University Club Team, 5-1, Friday to complete the week unbeaten.

  The win gives MCC a 23-5 record heading into Spring Break weekend. The T-Birds will be off until they host Eastern Arizona in a doubleheader Tuesday at noon.

  The T-Birds took a 2-0 lead in the second. Dallas Riggs (Fr., Phoenix, AZ/Bradshaw Mountain H.S.) walked and moved to second on a ground ball by Colton Corum (Fr., Winslow, AZ/Winslow H.S.).After a walk to Drew Lawrence (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek H.S.), Casey Moses (So. North Las Vegas, )Nev/Centennial H.S.) drove in two with a double.

  An inning later MCC added two more.Mitchell Morimoto (Fr., Issaquah, Wash/Issaquah H.S.) tripled and scored when Brady Alexander (Fr., Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field H.S.) reached on an error. Alexander then stole second, moved over on a Riggs groundf ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Corum.

  The Thunderbirds closed the scoring in the sixth when Jordan Rose (So., Tremonton, Utah/Bear River H.S.) walked and eventually scored on an error.

  Brendan Catron (Fr., Page, AZ/Page H.S.) got the victory in relief, going five innings, allowing just one run and striking out four. Tyler Carvalho (So., Lancaster, Calif/Paraclete H.S.) started and went just two innings by design, tuning up for Tuesday's doubleheader.
